“Head on straight, mask on crooked” - MF DOOM
The Illest Villain Ring was conceived through the influences of English-born American underground hip-hop artist named Daniel Dumile, aka MF DOOM.
MF DOOM is infamously recognised by his on stage masks. MF DOOM’s alias is derived from the comic book character, Victor von Doom aka Doctor Doom. Dr. Doom was a Marvel Villain conceived by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby.
The particular design used for the Illest Villain Ring was MF DOOM’s 2nd mask design. It was designed and constructed by Blake Lethem. Lethem used the mask portion of a prop helmet from the movie Gladiator (2000). Lethem deconstructed the helmet, modified it and made it possible to be worn for MF DOOM’s on-stage performances.
